Sugar snap belongs to the same family as snow peas. They differ in part from snow peas in that their pods are more rounded than those of snow peas. These peas are usually eaten whole and are characterized by their crunchy texture and sweet taste.

Purchase guide

Choose sugar snap that has a firm pod with a smooth, glossy surface. They should also be a nice green colour.

Consumption

To prepare sugar snap, rinse the pod, break off the stem and pull the thread downwards, then discard. Cut off any spots. Sweet peas can be eaten raw, steamed or sautéed in a pan. They are delicious in salads, stews, stir-fries and stews.

COnservatiOn

Sugar snap will keep for up to a week in the refrigerator in a sealed plastic bag, and in the freezer for up to three months. You can also partially cook the peas, refrigerate them and reheat them later.
